CLOSED, Berlin, Interior Design

PHILIPP MAINZER OFFICE FOR ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN completes a new women’s and men’s store located in the concept mall Bikini Berlin. The 180 sqm store nearby Berlin Kurfürstendamm features a continuous set of geometric forms that form intriguing presentation spaces for the men’s and women’s collection, whilst elegantly toying with high-grade materials and original colours as a main design element.

Rich materials such as marble, solid wood and natural leather are contrasted with back-lit powder coated MDF shelves in combination with perforated steel boxes in subtle yet distinct colours, emphasising the innovative and authentic character of the international fashion label Closed

Since 2004, PHILIPP MAINZER OFFICE FOR ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN has collaborated with Closed in creating a progressive and identifiable brand architecture for the label. This includes the design and realisation of all Closed retail stores, showroom spaces as well as numerous international exhibition stands for the brand.

CLOSED, Hamburg, Interior Design

For fashion label Closed PHILIPP MAINZER OFFICE FOR ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN was commissioned to redesign the brand’s first flagship store on Bergstrasse in Hamburg. Completed in March 2013, the 226 sqm interior is divided into a separate male and female space yet featuring an open interior design, having eliminated all interior walls. A large glass window front of the corner store allows for optimum use of daylight, resulting in a bright and airy interior and maximum use of display space to the exterior.

The redesign of the Hamburg flagship store features the brand new architectural concept whereby the space is created as a bright, airy and open interior with a number of new designed display units, providing for a combination of hanging and flat presentations. New central pieces are the steel-framed glass cabinets with built-in fluorescent lighting, open shelves from black lacquered wood veneer and a new black steel cabinet. The cool and artistic look is balanced by warm elements such as white marble tables, a signature wall in yellow as well as a free-standing wooden cabinet used for jewellery display. Grey oiled solid wooden floorboards and hanging space via thin, elegant black coat racks positioned along the walls over bench elements strengthen the overall appearance, expressing a modern and forward quality of the brand. With the new store concept a dynamic within the space is generated, encouraging the customer to move around the merchandise.

The redesign of the Hamburg flagship store reflects the continuation of the close and ongoing working relationship between the two companies. Since 2004, PHILIPP MAINZER has realised all showroom and store spaces as well as exhibitions for the international fashion brand and created a recognisable brand architecture for the label.
